Island life is expensive, so I made a habit of frequenting the grocery store. Here was a lovely dinner taken up at Rano Kau.

I guess I am used to traversing the vast expanses of the American West, but it was endlessly charming to see how compact the island is.

Motu Iti and Motu Nui. The larger Island is Nui, or Birdman Island. Up until the mid 1860s, there was a competition every year wherein a contestant from each clan would swim out to the island and get the first egg of the Sooty Tern. He who captured the egg would be Birdman for the following year.
